Geoff, so happy you are back in PDX. I have never stopped talking you up and have been waiting for the chance to have some close frinds hear your passion in a live show. I got married about 2 months ago and naturally "I'm in Love" was on my mix CD for the reception. Take care and hurry up and play a gig!

Hey Geoff. Wish you the best with all that's going on. My husband and I became instant fans of yours when we saw you in D.C. at the Warner Theater with Hall and Oates back in 2006! You are truly gifted! Any plans for you to come up to D.C. or Virginia any time soon? We'd love to see you perform again! Best Wishes!

amanda DID sing along with Krista on the Cheerleader Nation song! They were our secret weapon when we recorded that song. Nice job girls. Meanwhile, things are going good...I hope for you too. If you're in LA, say hi!

Cheers girl,

Hey stranger-- it's been forever since we all got together. I was just playing around and listening to that little theme song we did (unstoppable). Any way you'd put Krista and my names on it? I was telling some friends about it and they didn't believe it was us :( Maybe it will launch a huge singing career for us, haha. Looks like you're doing great! Heard one of your songs on the radio the other day and it made me smile. keep it up! :)

I have been blown away since The Likes of You played on the finale of "The Next Great American Band". "When I Fall from Grace" has it all. Went out and bought "Shrinking Violets" just more of this great and inventive singer!!! Geoff, you should come to Ohio!! We'd love to hear you!

Geoff has a blended style reminiscent of Beatles, Loggins & Messina and some of the great bands from the 60's and 70's- all rolled into his unique style. I wish you every success.

Merry Christmas moms...youre theabsolute best.

I actually started the book Ive been thinking about writing for a while now. Wrote the first 10 pages tonight. I feel good about it. I actually can't wait to write more which is the sign of signs. Its called "Clarity" and i hope a few people will want to read it when its done. Meanwhile I am genuinely looking forward to playing live with the band. I have a feeling the vibe is going to be really groovy at Molly Malones. I hope the holidays have been great for everyone. Things are good.

December 24, 2007

merry Christmas everyone...its 60 and sunny which Ive never experienced before but I can get used to it for sure. I'm realizing that Im grateful for a lot of things. Life seems to be all how we perceive it. If we think its great, it becomes great. Its cool. So simple, so powerful.

Right now Im thinking about how great the guys in my band are. Amazing musicians and such genuine guys. I feel lucky to have them in my life. I also feel strongly that this record will be the best one to date. I am REALLY excited about it.

One thing ive learned is to work the hardest on the things that are inteinsically the most fun. Sometimes i have so many things i want to do, i get confused with what my priorities should be. I have learned recently through trial and error that the project that should always come next is the one that you feel would give you the most satisfaction, the most joy, the most fun.

I have found that the most success comes out of that phenomenon as well. Its a hard thing to truly do something without regard to what people will think of the end result. But its always the most artistic and satisfying as well.

Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and ill spew some more random thoughts and unedited tangents your way soon.

Meanwhile, have you ever said a word in your head a bunch of times and realized just how strange that word is? That word for me right now is "cahoots." say it a sentence then 5 times in a row. It fricken bizarre!

Ventura is a cool town. Staying at a friends house over holidays contemplating writing a novelette. Actually it's always been a movie in my head. The hardest part about writing a song is just clearing your head of all priorities and live now in the moment. Clearing time and confusion and all multi-tasking to stop and express that moment...that feeling that IS that moment. The tough part is just carving that time out and stopping all other thought. Inner dialogue can be so busy...the key is slowing it down. At least for me.

The key to writing a book? God knows. I've not done it yet although I have toyed with the ideas of this story I have had rolling around in my head for literally years. I'm beginning to see that the key to writing a book is just simply WRITING! Getting started is always the hardest part. OK...this blog talked me into dedicating an hour to it tonight. I can't wait until 8 hours goes by and I'm foaming at the mouth trying to get to the next part. I wonder if that will ever happen.

Anyway, random thoughts by Geoff Byrd. Would you look at that? I just mentioned myself in the third person. I must be either self-important or convincing myself that my blogs will be read. Either way, I'll try not to do it again. lol.

Ever wonder why they call underwear a "pair" of underwear when it's clearly only one?

Ponder that. I know I have...much love,

Geoff.

December 22, 2007

thanks Desiree...I think. lol...anyway, I have to say,

I got a few comments about our doing a benifit on TPC (The Pentagon Channel) and I can't speak for the rest of the band but here's my take on it:

I'm not a proponant of this war, never have been. But I do believe the soldiers have fought and risked their lives for us and they deserve a hero's welcome no matter what the politics. I am looking forward to a new era that is not packed with fear and people are more aware.

Getting ready to spend a week off for Christmas. I hope people have a peaceful holiday and much love to you all.

Geoff, I just had a dream that you were the world's first pregnant man. I think that means you are about to give birth to some specular project... xoxo

December 19, 2007

Thanks Trish,

Today was interesting...I read something the other day. It said, be radically in the moment by doing one thing:

Don't judge anything. Not yourself, not the drivers on the road, not beautiful or ugly, funny or stupid, good music or bad....

just try to accomplish your goals for the day without judging anything.

I thought that was cool. But I tell you what, it's fucking hard!

lol...cheers.

Geoff,

Can't wait to hear your new song. I feel that your music is thought provoking, smart, fun, deep and sometimes overtly spiritual. You can tell that your songs are written from the heart and you share your vulnerability with your fans and that makes you a great musician and singer. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your projects in the future. Come to CT please!!!
Take care and much love!

Geoff Byrd

December 18, 2007

thank you very much. Lately I have been working on writing a book that is a fiction story. I don't know what hit me but writing has always been more painstaking than writing songs. I think the key is just to finish basically. It's intense and challenging but that's what makes it fun too. I've been realizing that life is short and yet all we really have is the present. The past is over and worrying about the future just causes anxiety. So I'm trying to live in the present as much as I can in thought and action.

Recently wrote a song that may be my favorite one I've written to sing. It's heartbreaking....in a good way. This new song is called "Sugarcane" and it's very much in the vein of "When I Fall From Grace"...hope to record it soon. Weird thing is I just had a dream that the Clark brothers sang it on Conan. I may have to call them and who knows...it could be reality.

I'm going to be blogging every day here for a while and hopefully I can keep it up. I feel compelled to do that for some reason. But I think vulnerability is strength. So I plan on the blogs being quite open. Cheers! Word of mouth rules.
